Our Belgian White is made with light pale malt, malted wheat, unmalted wheat, and oats. The oats are added to give a very light color as well as body to the beer. The wheat is used for a couple of reasons. First, with its high protein content, it is used to make the beer cloudy. Also, when it is mixed with the special Belgian yeast it will give a fruity aroma and taste. The beer is hopped very lightly with English Kent Golding hops so as to not overpower the spices. Finally, in keeping with tradition, it is spiced with coriander and orange peels. Also, like all other Belgian White beers, it is unfiltered. This will make the beer slightly cloudy, but it will also make it more flavorful. The result is a cloudy but light colored beer with a pleasant fruity aroma and refreshing aftertaste. Summer is approaching which means that an Abita Belgian White will be the perfect refreshment to get you through the sultry summer heat.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a relatively clear gold with very little head and almost zero lacing--very unlike a normal witbier.

Smells of citrus esters, spices (coriander?), and a bit of wheat. This carries on into the taste, with the addition of a hint of hops. Mouthfeel is a bit on the watery side.

Overall, a really drinkable beer, but nothing terribly special.

Pours clouded gold with a lasting foamy white head. Nose is grainy with light citrus and spice. Not bad! Taste is a Belgian Wit. Light spices, wheat, light yeast, light citrus and minimal hops. This is rather good. Body is light, as stated, and very refreshing. Finishes with more light spice, mild hop profile, wheat, and yeast. Thinned fruitiness as well. Nice beer!

Sampled at the Abita Brewpub as a part of their select series. The color is a hazy yellow with an orange tint. Head is nice-sized and fluffy. The aroma is fairly light and consists of a combination of orange peels, spices, and wheat. Taste starts with a strong orange flavor, which is probably too strong and takes away from some of the subtleties I enjoy in a witbier. Nice spice tastes are noted underneath the powerful orange. Mouthfeel is perfectly crisp and drinkability is very high. This is a very good beer, other than the overly powerful orange flavors, and is well worth a try when in Abita.
