Notes: Key lime gose. In New Orleans, to-go cups mean the fun (and the beer) doesn’t always have to stay inside the bar. To-Gose is Abita’s refreshing take on a traditional gose beer – a slightly salty and sour beer style. Brewed with malted wheat and barley and German Perle hops, fresh key limes are added during aging to create this sour ale with hints of lime, coriander and sea salt.

Notes via stream of consciousness: I love the name! And I love New Orleans' to-go laws. Not that you don't need to be careful and follow all of the other laws (no drinking and driving, etc.). It's poured a very hazy yellow-gold body beneath a creamy head of bright white that seems to be holding quite well. It looks good! In the nose I'm getting a pleasant, sweetish lime note and some mineralish/salty character - so far so good! The flavor, however, is a disappointment as it's way too salty and there's not enough lime. Where did the lime go? It's not even that sour, although the salt might be covering some of that up. Oh Abita, how do you screw up a simple kettle soured gose? I'm not sure I can even drink this. What a shame. There's some nice sweetish malt under there but I don't find it until the salt starts to wane in the finish. Wow, what a wreck. Of course it's easy to fix - less salt, more lime. I won't even bother with mouthfeel and an "overall" impression of the beer. If I had a lime with me I might add it and finish it but as it is I'm just going to dump it and move forward. How sad is that?

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Clear golden pour with massive foamy white head. Great retention and lacing.

S: Tart lime and citrus. Light grains.

T/F: Cracked grains and wheat. Light and clean... lime juice, salt, and floral. Strong citrus presence.. a bit of spice. Light bodied... zesty carbonation. Lime juice on the finish.

O: Overall a solid gose. A bit salty but refreshing and one of the better brews I've had from Abita. Great light summer fare.

Pours a hazy maize color. 3/4 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of lemon, wheat, slight hop, hint of salt, and a hint of yeast. Fits the style of a Gose. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level and noticeable tartness. Tastes of lemon, wheat, slight hop, hint of salt, and a hint of yeast. Overall, appearance doesn't match typical Goses, tartness and citrus dominate, more like a Berliner Weiss.

Pours a cloudy pilsnery gold with a short head that fades quickly. Leaves no lace. Very citrusy on the nose. Has a semi tart start with a bitter finish that doesnt linger and leaves very little after taste. Ive had better gose's but id buy this one again. Very refreshing and light. Good session beer.

Pours a clear deep straw/pale gold producing 3 fingers of fizzy, foamy, somewhat lasting white head that leaves loose rings & splotches of lace & a moderate surface cap. Low level effervesce streaming from the bottom. Aroma is mildly acidic, lime citrus & grainy wheat with hints of coriander & something vegetal in a briney background. Taste is milder than the average gose. Tangy, salty, lemon/lime citrus & a coriander note that is more cilantro like than coriander (I realize cilantro is the leafy portion & coriander the seeds of the same plant but the aroma and taste of these are different) with hints of grainy malt & wheat. Finishes slightly tart & dry with vegetal, cilantro, lime citrus & brine predominant. Aftertaste is lightly tart, slightly vegetal, lime citrus & faintly bitter. Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation, crisp, prickly & very dry. Very drinkable.

Light copper colored with a fingernail of dishwater white on top. Moderate lacing. I smell coriander with sea salt playing a background note. I taste coriander and lactobacilius in moderation. This beer is balanced and very approachable to those new to gose. The mouth is moderately salinic and definitely thirst quenching.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 11/1/2017. Pours fairly hazy pale golden/yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tart lemon, key lime, citrus peel, pear, apple, white grape, coriander, sea salt, pepper, wheat, cracker, white bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, limes, spices, and pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart lemon, key lime, citrus peel, pear, apple, white grape, coriander, sea salt, pepper, wheat, cracker, white bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness; light fruit tang, yeast spiciness, and herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, key lime, citrus peel, pear, apple, white grape, coriander, sea salt, pepper, wheat, cracker, white bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, limes, spices, and pale malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tart/bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/acidic, and fairly crisp/sticky/saline balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.1%. Overall this is a delicious Gose! All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, limes, spices, and pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the modestly lactic/spicy/drying finish. Not a ton of Lacto, but definitely adequate. This had a really great vibrancy on the key lime additions, and they fit perfectly with the base style. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

12oz bottle, served in a snifter glass. Pours a slightly hazy golden orange body, one finger white head, good retention, not much lacing. Smell is key lime juice, a bit of salt, touch of grain, light lactic acid and yogurt, and that pretty much is it. Flavour is a mild grainy sweetness, light lactic acid, touch of salt, finished off by a tart key lime juice. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied, good carbonation, refreshing, and not particularly sour. A decent gose, drinkable with a fair bit of key lime. Could use a bit more salt and tartness to give an overall increased complexity to it.

Lots of fruity and sea salt aroma.

Taste follows the smell with a fruity key lime sea salt flavor and a slight sourness.

Key lime, sea salt and a slight sourness.

L: gold with a slight haze, permeated with bubbles rushing to feed a moderate white cap with fair retention

S: tart scent of key limes, wheat flour, fruit, a spicy vegetal smell, and a slight funk

T: Johnathan apple tart, with a citrusy tart lime, wheat, and bread dough up front. The key lime emerges closer to the back of the palate and offers more flavor than tartness

F: light and highly carbonated

O: Abita has achieved a nice balance between the added key lime and the natural, citrusy flavors of the Gose.

On tap. Pours a transparent, straw color with a fingernail head and no lacing. Aroma of citrus and salt. Taste is moderately tart lime and salt with a clean finish. Light body and medium carbonation.
The additional information about the key limes explain some of the beer's flaws. It's barely tart before the salt cuts through the tartness. It's the most wheat-ey gose I've had. It's certainly quaffable and I could mindlessly drink a few of these in the summer.

The appearance is a hazy gold with a thin white head that goes away quickly.

The smell is a refreshing breeze of sea slat and limes with a nice bready background.

The taste is LIME in your face with a brine like salt water. Slightly sour because of the lime. Yet the the lime sourness is temepered a bit by that lovely salt balance.

Mouth is light with a fairly crisp finish made a bit sticky with the lime juice.

Both me and the wife enjoyed this Gose and were really longing for a six of this refreshing beverage in our fridge.

Poured into a tulip: look is a hazy rustic, straw color with bubbly head.

Smell is of lime and cheap tequila that somewhat resembles Corona

Mouthfrel is thin, fizzy, mildly tangy.

Taste is basically Corona without the need to add a lime. Not very sour, watered down like Corona and truthfully I'd rather drink Corona. I also do not think it will get better with age and this just may be the worse gose I ever tasted. Drinkable for a one time try or a hand out when I'm out of beer and it's the only choice given.

I hate these sorts of salty beers. Abita's To-Gose has a thick, creamy, white head, a hazy, yellow-green-gold, bubbly appearance, and heavy glass lacing. A descending yellow-gray cloud is evident, following the "swish & pour". Aroma is of spicy white bread and lime. Taste is of salt, mostly, with spice bread and a lime undercurrent. Mouthfeel is medium, and To-Gose finishes salty and dry. Tastes like a saltier original Gatorade. I think it's exactly what they were trying to create, but I just don't like the idea.

Kind of a sour stale smell to this golden colored beer, but it's actually pretty good. Hints of lime with a touch of sour, nothing to over the top. I think this would be great with Mexican or spicy food.

12 oz

Pours slightly hazy straw golden, white head starts about a half inch thick and dissipates to a consistent film.

Smells of lemon and lime citrus, saltine cracker malt, and a cane sugar sweetness.

Tastes is of light citrus over a mild cracker malt.

Light body, with a stinging carbonation on the roof of the mouth.

A pretty pour with a good smell, but the flavor is a bit mild and watery. This isn't a huge deal for something that is meant to be light and sessionable, but I just wish there was a bit more of that lime and sea salt in the flavor. It could have been really fantastic, but it's just a solid gose, and with other breweries doing the sea salt lime gose thing, it's not the best one out there. Still a nice beach beer or summer session, nothing to turn your nose up at.
