Our Porter is made with British pale and American caramel and chocolate malts. We also have flavored it with a hint of vanilla to add a pleasant taste and aroma. This will complement the sweet malty flavor of the beer. Since the beer gets so much flavor from the malts and the vanilla, there is not a lot of hop flavor. There is just enough bitterness to complement the sweetness of the malt.

Pours a dark chocolate brown with a tan head that quickly fades into a thin cap.
There a good pleasant smoky aroma that offsets the sweet vanilla odors. Looking forward to my first sip.
The smokiness in the aroma plays second fiddle to a carob-like sweetness that flirts with a cloying level. I'm getting some candied yams as well. There's some roasted coffee flavors that linger on the back end.
The carbonation seems a bit aggressive initially but helps to clear the palate of excess sweetness.
Not bad, not amazing. Of the Abita beers I've tried, this is the least forgettable.

The smokiness in the aroma plays second fiddle to a carob-like sweetness that flirts with a cloying level. I'm getting some candied yams as well. There's some roasted coffee flavors that linger on the back end.

Not bad, not amazing. Of the Abita beers I've tried, this is the least forgettable.

Currently on tap at Simmzy's in Manhattan Beach.
Pours about half a finger length of head atop a dark brown body with a red tinge when held up to the light. When the head is high, the legs are nice and thick as I tilt.
Aromas include a well-balanced blend of coffee roasts and vanilla bean. Lower in intensity though, I do have to really *whiff* for it.
My initial impression was this tastes awfully similar to a Turbodog Brown (not sure if it's the malts they are using). As it warms, however, the distinctive flavors of the beer start manifesting, and primarily include toasty caramel malts and vanilla bean. A good amount of coffee as well.
The mouthfeel exhibits plenty of carbonation and sufficient fullness on the palate as I swish.
Overall, pairs well the roasty character of a porter and the toastiness of a brown, with a healthy quantity of vanilla bean dancing across the flavor spectrum. It's consistently good from the tip of the tongue all the way to the finish. Still has a mildly cloying bitterness that's present in a lot of Abita's beers, but the general drinkability is high with this one. I could go for another.

Had this at the Barley Oak in Mandeville, La
Poured a dark brown with some ruby hues, nice tan head that dissipated pretty quickly, not much lacing.
Smells of vanilla, chocolate, coffee, roasted malts
Tastes like it smells but on the lighter side, vanilla and chocolate is def there
Mouthfeel was medium and creamy
Drinkability was good, def enjoyed the beer
Looking forward to the cask conditioned Vanilla Porter coming up pretty soon
