Looks nice. Hazy dark orange color. Head was a light yellowish color. No lace.
Holy rum!! Yea, really, that's about it... it smells like rum. Did they use an empty barrel?
Taste was nearly as rum-filled. All rum, all the time. I really enjoyed the original honey rye, but there is no trace of that here. Nothing but crude rum.
Feel was creamy, but well under-carbonated. Felt fine.
I am not sure what happened here. From my experience, I'm curious whether this was rum barrel aged, or straight up rum infused! The best descriptor would be that they forgot that there was rum still in the barrel... Maybe Abita is working the kinks out... I'm really glad that Abita is experimenting with barrels, but they definitely need some refinement. Hopefully they continue this project...practice makes perfect.
Cheers to Abita stepping outside the box!
