The Reverend is finally showing an affinity for the rum. After all these years of preaching the Colorado craft beer gospel, he finally finds comfort in the bottom of a barrel and revels in the sweetness, spiciness and maturity that comes from Gosling rum and an eight month nap.
Medium garnet, foggy and crowned with an ivory white froth, Murver starts killing it immediately with a caramelized scent laced with dark, dried fruit, holiday spice and a warming hint of brandy. As its malty sweet upstart delivers on those caramelized flavors, they also invite the flavors of honey, maple and candied nuttiness to join the spread.
As the rum barrel quad reaches across the middle palate a burst of fruitiness brings suggestions of raisin, date, fig, grape, plum and cherry, all with an eventual balance of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, ginger and cardamom along with a general blend of pie spices. As a gentle woodsy bitterness persists as the end draws near, a spice of oak, rum and brandy tease the tastebuds with a heated and peppery balance.
Full bodied, prickling with spice and finishing with a smoldering warmth in the throat, the Belgian-styled ale is off-cloying, sweet and spicy in a lingering after palate.
