Courtesy of a generous buddy who recently visited Avery.
Look: very dark brew. Some ruby highlights when held to light. Decent size mocha head on the pour that recedes to wispy streaks.
Smell: not as chocolatey or sweet as expected. Some bourbon, vanilla, chocolate hints.
Taste: sweeter than the nose, more chocolate, but not a ton. Way smooth for a 16%er.

On tap. Pitch black color. Nose of chocolate, vanilla, and roasted malt. Chocolate and vanilla come through in the body, overwhelming the malt. Medium full body and low carbonation.
Interesting beer but the small pour was enough. Probably works better as a after dinner beer during winter.

they called this one an oatmeal porter, not stout, although at this level they are certainly interchangeable. its brewed with malted milk balls, a personal favorite of mine, so needless to say, these scores are probably skewed toward my own candy bent here. its great beer though by any measure, dark and dreamy looking, with a silky rich head grayish tan. a nose right out of the whoppers carton. that milk chocolate and malt are intense and its awesome, no mistaking the candy used. base stout definitely is oat forward, creamy, and not overly roasty. as a result, the beer ends up beyond sweet. a pint would be a little too much i think, but the candy flavor really comes through well, which sort of blows me away. still beer though too, not liquid malted milk balls. very rich, sturdy, wintery, and unique. a fun tap room exclusive from avery. it must have beer a tough job to clean the tanks after this one!
