12 ounce bottle, bottled on March 3 2016. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a mostly clear reddish/copper color with about an inch light tan head that didn't stick around for very long. There's also a small amount of lacing. Aroma is nice and sweet, the brew smells like bourbon, vanilla, maple, dark fruit, oak, sugar and caramel. The taste pretty much follows the aroma with bourbon, maple, vanilla, booze, dark fruit (cherry, raisins), brown sugar, oak and caramel flavors. And yeah, it is boozy but that's to be expected for something that's 18.5% ABV. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's a bit slick and syrupy with moderate carbonation. I thought this was a good brew, definitely worth picking up if you're into barrel-aged brews and/or old ales! $12.99 a bottle.

Landed several bottles back in ‘16. Hottest Avery I ever had fresh but came together nicely over the years.
Look: clear copper. Nice reddish tan head on the pour, impressive retention for such a big brew.
Smell: maple, vanilla, toffee.
Taste: very mellow, dark fruits. Finish is drier than the nose would indicate. Slight alcohol burn but the years have turned this into a gentle giant.

A: Poured into a snifter to a beep reddish brown topped by a dense half finger of off white head which fades to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing.
S: Smells of brown sugar and toasted malts with some bourbon barrel, coconut, and some maple
T: Taste is a little oaky up front with some toasted malts, coconut, vanilla, brown sugar sweetness, and some slight dark fruit notes as well along with a hint of maple. On the swallow there's more bourbon and oak, coconut, dark fruits, toasted malts, and brown sugar.
M: This beer is on the fuller side of medium with a slightly syrupy feel on the palate. Carbonation is slightly effervescent but it is not over the top while the beer has a drying finish due to the ABV.
O: Overall this beer is very intense. There's a ton of flavor and complexity. Overall the beer is well balanced, but the alcohol is not well hidden. Worth a shot if this one comes back around again.

Bottled 3/3/16; drank 4/7/17 @ the Yarchives.
Opaque red/purple rust appearance; champagne bubbles throughout.
A rough pour yielded a small khaki head; strong, frothy lace.
Caramel, plum, leather & mild booze heat notes in the nose.
Thick, sticky mouthfeel.
Caramel, leather & faint raspberry flavors up front; strong booze heat notes on the finish.
Over a year in & the booze is still VERY strong; I'm starting to think 2 years minimum is necessary on these obnoxiously high ABV Avery brews. Still a nice beer but it's not where I need it to be.

Bottled on March 3rd 2016.Pours into a snifter a tawny brown with a slight reddish tint,a thinner light beige head atop.Mild bourbon and maple-nut notes in the nose, not in your face but inviting.Even after three years of sitting this is still a hot shot, dark fruits with a slight lactic tinge mixed with underlying bourbon/vanilla and maple, the whole time there is the jet fuel heat into the finish.I'ts been awhile since I had a beer this big, once you get underneath the jet fuel aspect there is some nice nuances.

Big and boozy. Coppery brown translucent, no head retention or lacing. Nose has an earthy character along the wood. Taste is booze, burnt caramel, oak. Body lighter than expected. Feels like it is fortified.

12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 3/3/16, had 5/3/18.
Pours a hazy medium amber, with a quickly dissipating quarter inch head and sparse, soapy lacing. This smells great. Aromas of bourbon, figs, dates, white grapes, raisins, some oak, light maple and tobacco. A sweet aroma overall, and a little spicy. The taste is similar, but not as expansive. Bourbon, figs, malt, raisins, some plums and dates, noticeable alcohol. A bit of a sweet taste, but not overly so. Smooth for the ABV, a good medium body, appropriately carbonated.
Might have let this age too long. Still really good, but the maple syrup is pretty much recognizable as just sweet, especially in the flavor. It’s almost brandy- like at this point. Very enjoyable, but feel I missed it’s prime.
