Deviation is a four-barrel one-off of the Salvation recipe, fermented with a lager yeast (the brewers at the pub I chatted with weren't sure which strain off hand). Served in a small nonic on draught at Avery's tasting room, Deviation is a cloudy pale gold with a medium sized white head that leaves heavy lace.
Smell is soft, this is a lager served on the colder side of course, grainy, some sugar, perhaps a touch of wheat. Also a whiff of alcohol.
Taste is pretty average strong lager, grainy but on the cleaner side, with a strong alcohol presence. Pretty good, but really lacking complexity compared to the Belgian yeast version, making the ABV seem a bit vulgar.
Mouthfeel is dry and a bit crisp, although make no mistake, it takes a lot of sugars for a beer this big. Still, it has a medium-light body.
Drinkability is good for a strong lager, but I can't help but constantly compare this to Salvation, in which case it is pretty much sub par in all regards.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
