Stout aged in bourbon barrels with cherry, cacao nibs, and vanilla beans.
Dark, rich stout held in barrels like tart, gooey cherries held in a dark chocolate shell. Take a bite of this blissful beverage, courtesy of our beer chocolatiers. Nom nom bon bon!

One of the best barrel aged stouts I've drank. The look is dark and slightly reddish. The smell is a combination of vanilla, cherries, and chocolate. It has a smooth taste unlike many barrel aged stouts. The mouth feel is sublime and smooth.
I know that it's been retired, but it's a world class barrel aged stout. Well done Avery!

L: Pours a thick pitch black with a small tan head and no lacing on the glass.
S: Some roasted walnuts, sweet decadent chocolate, vanilla and a slight sour cherry. Very inviting aroma.
T: Roasted walnuts, sweet chocolate, a note of vanilla and caramel and a light cherry. Very nice and decadent exactly how I like my stouts.
F: Smooth and full body.
O: This is exactly how I like my stouts and still in really good shape for being 4 years old.

July 26 2019 bottle is only 14.6 alc so let me know if there is another one this review belongs on ..
I slept on this one for a while because of the cherries but it is not a overpowering character at all ...
Super dark chocolate head and nice thick body..
The barrel is hidden by the base beer I suppose but this is a proper imperial stout in every way.

Avery Brewing Co. "Bon-Bon Cerise"
$11 for 8 oz. on tap @ Falling Rock Tap House, Denver, CO on 10/06/2019
Notes: 14.6% ABV. Imperial stout aged in Bourbon barrels with cherries, cacao nibs, and vanilla beans. Black in color beneath a reddish-pink tinted tan foam. The head retention is good, particularly for a barrel aged beer. Aroma of Bourbon and chocolate. The flavor brings in cocoa, vanilla, and some cherry. Median, balanced bitterness with a little bit of spiciness from the alchohol helping to balance. It finishes with vanilla follwed by cherry. Medium-full in body with a moderate carbonation that leaves it quite smooth. Absolutely fantastic!

12oz bottle poured into a snifter
Bottled 2019
A- pours thick jet black in color with a one-finger creamy khaki head that reduces to a thin film and leaves some lacing behind
S- Initial aroma smells just like a chocolate covered cherry; creamy milk chocolate, cherry syrup and vanilla cream. Undertones of oaky barrel adds a nice bourbon aroma. Hints of caramel & blueberry
T- sweet milk chocolate hit the palate up front, along with notes of caramel and creamy vanilla. Mid-palate brings out a sweet cordial cherry note that really does taste like a chocolate covered cherry. The finish gives more cherry with undertones of oaky bourbon, chocolate and caramel sticking around on the linger
M- medium body with moderate carbonation gives a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a velvety, warming finish

The more I think about it the more I believe Avery stouts are underrated. Take this bon-bon cerise, for example. The tremendous lacing over the viscous oily black color signals an extremely well crafted beverage. And the taste is about as good as a cherry flavored barrel aged stout is going to get. The cherry is present but not overwhelming or artificial. The sticky sweet flavors of molasses, cacao, vanilla, charred malt, and oak barrel are all in excellent proportion. It’s 15.5% abv for goodnesses sakes, and it doesn’t taste harsh at all. About a third of the written reviews state this is their favorite or among their favorite stouts. So why the “low” average of 4.29? Because of the high price point? That shouldn’t really matter for the objective rating. Because Avery has 8 other stouts similarly as good? Because it is not distributed in a “big market” state like California or Massachusetts? Because Coloradans themselves don’t realize Avery is actually better than Odell or New Belgium, probably because those came along earlier and have the legacy push? Something is off. I absolutely love Founders CBS, for example, and Avery has a larger selection of maple stouts that are just as good. Whatever the reasons, this is amazing and should be recognized as such.

L: Dark Brown, bordering black. Incredible lacing and takes forever to fizz out after pouring.
S: Vanilla, Chocolate, and Cherries, just as advertised. Deeply aromatic and rich notes of oak, with burnt caramel and a slight booziness also come through. Let it breathe and open up for a few minutes before you pour.
T: Wow!!! The first thing I taste is the chocolate. It isn’t very sweet, but definitely noticeable. The cherries are quite faint, but you get a tartness and an ever so slight sourness from them that balances things out. The vanilla seems standard for a lot of bourbon barrel aged Stouts, but also compliments this nicely. I’m getting some molasses and the dark maltiness is just enough. I swear you can’t tell this is a 14.6%. It’s deeply complex and well balanced, but also exciting and highly drinkable.
F: Astringent and bubbly, goes down smooth. Nice to roll around on your tongue. I savored every last sip of this!!!
O: I must say, this is a serious contender for my favorite beer of all time. Just absolutely phenomenal. Well balanced and highly sessionable…if only the bottle I paid for wasn’t $27 then I would get this all the time!!!

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This monster pours a
dark coal black with a nice head of tan foam that settles to
a thick ring, thin light layer, and shows off light lacing. Nose of
dark cherry, dark chocolate, bourbon, and vanilla cream with
touches of char and oak. Flavors knock it out of the park---bourbon,
oak, vanilla, cream, dark Bing cherries, char, earthy malts, and warming
astringent booze. Nice mouth feel; full body, smooth, slick, coating, warming,
low carbonation that still has a touch of effervescence that keeps things
lively, and a rich, sweet, malt and bourbon driven finish.
Love all their brews----this one hits the mark!
Cheers

Black in color with minimal light penetration. There’s a fingernail of brown around most of the rim and covering half of the top. The aroma is cocoa, dark cherries, and vanilla. I’m tasting plenty of chocolate, some cherries, and vanilla. The mouth is viscous and chewy. The alcohol is fairly well hidden.
