12 oz bottle

Black, over carbonation leads to big 3 inch head, but that faded to nothing. Roasty aroma. Taste is on the dry side. More like a dry Irish stout than an English Porter. Body could be thicker, too thin. Carbonation is high.

Tasted at Good Beer Festival in Salisbury, MD. I will admit that Ib didn't take copious notes, but this was not a standout. A little thin, I think.

Now I'm a big fan of porters, and this is an up-and-coming one my distributor started stocking.

I poured it into a small sample cup, unfortunately it was hard to tell how it would appear normally. The head was a few MM, yet fairly thick and it dissipated after a minute or two.

The smell is that of immature cocoa/coffee beans, burnt and roasted malts with a hint of caramel. Overall the smell is pleasing, but there are hints of rotten plant matter that are slightly off-putting, this is definitely more noticeable in the taste than it is smell.

The taste is impressive, at first.. You are instantly greeted by those coffee and cocoa flavors upon taking a sip. But those flavors fairly quickly devolve into a very rotten, composty aftertaste. The beer isn't incredibly bitter, and taste wise the only pleasant impression I got was that of the coffee and cocoa flavors.

The mouthfeel is normal, far from exceptional, I wish it were a little more smooth and creamy, it feels like it would fit well with those initial flavors.

Overall I'm not convinced. I am a HUGE fan of porters and beers with darker malt characteristics. and this simply just doesn't hit home.

Hope this review is helpful, it's my first one ever!
