22oz brown bomber, sample from the brewery.

This is a pretty hefty brew, not just in alcohol but of body and flavor. Rich dense maltiness of chocolate, dark sugars, coffee, & mild charcoal. Heavy hand of hopping fills in with citrus zest, fresh pine sap, & earthy leafiness. Dark fruitiness abound, warming alcohol. Long linger of dark malts and pleasing hop resin.

Outstanding, brewers intention was met and then some.

22oz bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 8.99. Bottled 9/15. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours deep, near-black brown with just shy of two fingers pale tan head. The froth fades to a broad central island and a ring around the edge. Lacing is left in a bizarre wide array of small dots.

Smells of chocolate, roast, pine, grapefruit and caramel. Slightly sweet overall with some pretty nice malt and hop character.

Taste follows the nose. Chocolate, pine, rind, herbal, sugar, floral, burnt caramel, faint coffee, mild spice and a small tingle of alcohol. As in the aroma, this is sweeter than most I've tried in the style.

Creamy, medium full with fluffy carbonation. Orange, chocolate and burnt sugar continue the sweet, roasty citrus theme into the finish.

Southbound continues to do a good job on their limited releases. Black Circle adds a sweet spin to the typical citrus, pine and roast of Cascadian ales.
