22oz bottle from a friend. Bottled 11/2015. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.
Pours a dark tea brown with about two fingers of pale tan head. The foam fades to a thin surface haze and frothy crown that leaves a few scattered splotches of lace.
Aromas of anise, clove, dark fruit, nutmeg and some faint roast.
Tastes of the stereotypical Christmas spices. Nutmeg, clove, cinnamon and anise with other notes of fruit skins, roast malts, caramel, a little dark chocolate and a slight nip of booze.
Fairly creamy, medium full body with mild carbonation. Lingering finish of semi bitter dark chocolate covered fruit skins infused with holiday spicing.
It seems like Southbound has given the Christmas quad treatment to a stout l. Moondance is decent enough stout but between that Belgian yeast and heavy spicing it goes in a direction that I need not revist.

On tap in ATL; revisited with 22 oz bottle in July 2017.
Pours near black with a good head.
The complex aroma is dominated by chocolate, dark roasted grains and spices.
The flavor also features spicy dark roasted grains. Hints of dark dried fruits. Mild bitterness in the finish and aftertaste.
Smooth, full body; warming but not hot.

Roasty, Unique, Spice, Warming
Big, bold and spicy. Lots of cinnamon and nutmeg flavor, which goes well with the hefty malt character and the flare of Belgian yeast. It’s hard to tell that this is 10.6 percent, though I do sense that there is a bit of warmth there, mostly dark fruit and floral esters. Moondance is very easy to sip. The spicing fades slowly into the finish and is well placed throughout. Overall, a nice mash-up of flavors.
