16oz can from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 12.99/ 4 pack. There are some numbers on the bottom of the can but, as is typical from Southbound, it is indecipherable. This was just recently released though. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku. Enjoyed 12/20/18.
Pours a pale, hazy straw yellow with ample fluffy white head. A few specks of lace decorate the glass but otherwise there’s no retention.
Smells citrusy and tropical. Oranges, papayas and a vague sweetness.
Flavors are juicy and only mildly bitter. Orange peel, piney mango, melon, a hint of spice and a restrained sweet breadiness. Quite drinkable.
Smooth, medium body with moderate carbonation. More tropical citrus in the finish.
It’s good to see another new IPA from Southbound, as I’ve had numerous pleasant past experiences. Chainsaw City shows that they may have what takes to cash in on the NEIPA craze. Hope this isn’t another one-and-done because I think it could do well for them.
