16oz can from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 14.99/ 4 pack. Canning date I’ll give Southbound credit for at least attempting to date their cans but all four in this pack are continuing examples of just how consistently sloppy amd illegible those dates typically are. At any rate, I’m confident this was canned earlier in February as this is a very recent release. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku. Enjoyed 2/26/19.
Pours an opaque pale straw with a tall, frothy white cap. Minimal retention.
The nose is juicy and inviting. Tangerine, lemon, piney mango, stone fruit and tropical fruitcake.
Tastes mildly bitter and quite juicy. Grapefruit, mango, oranges, citrus peel, peach skins, grass and a little bread with only an occasional sting of alcohol.
Fluffy, medium body with tingling carbonation. The finish holds notes of bitter citrus zest, faint tropical fruit juice and toast.
I missed Southbound’s first “Discography” release but this is one of the best IPAs I’ve tried from them. Freakin’ & Peakin’ is a successful ride on the New England style IPA train. Fans of the current hazy IPA trend should find this one worthwhile.
