Serving: On tap, sampler flight
Served: 5 April 2014

Appearance: Dark brown (definitely not black) with a dirty, nasty looking head on top. Looks somewhat hazy due to its dark brown color. Not the prettiest milk stout I've ever seen.

Smell: Roasted malts with that characteristic sweetness of a milk stout.

Taste: Wow, a fantastic take on a milk stout. This does not taste like sweet chocolate milk or milk chocolate or anything else people might think of when they have a milk stout. This brew is a strong, flavorful beer with powerful assertions of smoky roastiness that are smoothed out by the milk sweetness. I could have sworn there were smoked malts in this beer, but the beer list listed only roasted malts, so they must use a lot!

Mouthfeel: Smooth and creamy, just like you'd want. I'd love to see this on nitro-tap though, since that smoky sweetness would really hit you hard.

Overall: One of Function's best options. Huge flavors, especially this smoky roastiness, but softened appropriately with the lactose.
