Serving: On tap, sampler
Served: 9 May 2014
Appearance: A deep, somewhat hazy brown with a soapy head on top.
Smell: Strong assertions of caramel and toffee.
Taste: Much like the nose, this one was heavily weighted towards the malts. The smooth caramel and toffee notes from the malts were superb. The beer was sweeter in flavor than I had expected, but this was by no means bad.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied and thick.
Overall: One of the best beers I've had at Function, and a clear indication that craft brewers can nail a brown if they put their minds to it. This one drank very much like an Oktoberfest or Doppelbock in terms of flavor, but was not as full bodied as either of those two styles, making it a bit more approachable.
