Serving: On tap, sampler flight
Served: 5 April 2014

Appearance: Looks like an APA or an IPA. Soft amber hues in a a crystal clear beer with a nice foamy, white head.

Smell: Again, muted and soft, which seems to be a pattern with Function's brews. Definitely getting some dank, musty hop esters coming out of this one though.

Taste: A soft, slightly bitter APA with a solid, but not overly assertive, hop presence. The Herkules hops are pretty interesting- they are very "dank". Not the most effective word in describing them, I'm afraid, but compared to the in-your-face citrus or floral notes many APAs have, this one is muted somewhat due to the hops used.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation and body for the style.

Overall: A unique beer due to its nature. I'd love to see this made into a single-hop IPA though, so we can really get a strong assertion from the hop flavors which this beer is meant to showcase, because in this format, you really have to search for them. That being said, this beer gives me confidence that Function could brew a ballin' APA if they wanted.
