Serving: On tap, 4oz sampler
Served: 9 April 2015
Appearance: Pitch black with just the slightest sheen of brown bubbles crowning the edge of the glass.
Smell: Huge coffee notes overlaid with subtle notes of bakers cocoa and smokey roastiness. A noticeable sweetness pervades the nose too, giving it somewhat of a mocha aroma.
Taste: Imagine a beer mocha made with French roast coffee or otherwise extreme dark-roasted coffee, and that's the flavor of this beer. Huge dark-roasted coffee notes and an underlying chocolatey sweetness really make this beer quite the experience. I found the flavors a little heavily skewed towards the sweet side, however.
Mouthfeel: Much thinner than I would have expected. Is this thing even carbonated?
Overall: A good beer from function, though I think it could be made better with a toned-down sweetness and a slightly more intense roastiness. Would recommend.
