This was poured into an English pub glass. The appearance was a thick black color with a sustaining finger’s worth of white to off white foamy head that dissipated at a nice level pace. Thin rings of foamy lace appear. The aroma starts off with some thick sweet milk chocolate with a subtle roast underneath. Light vanilla. The flavor takes the all of the previously mentioned aromas to boot, combines to lean milky sweet. Milk chocolate aftertaste. Wet sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. Makes for a really nice session, almost of porter stature. So, yes, perhaps a bit more body could show some needed oomph. Overall, nice milk/sweet stout, almost a porter the way it drinks, but I look at this beer as having a ton of potential to get Vermont on its way towards best stouts/porters in the nation, hopefully.

This review is based on the canned version. The stout has a minimal head, while the dark body has little carbonation. Body is rather light and offers a subtle caramel nose ; the palate detects a faint malty finish. Decently drinkable beer, but nothing overwhelming. Inn any case, it is nice and sweet. The taste seems to jump out as the beer warms up a bit.
I do like this small brewery - outside of Middlebury.
