I have been wanting a proper English IPA for years. Local distributors do not favor imports, sadly. Local IPAs suck.
So imagine my excitement when I saw this one on a shelf of a local beer store! Alas, it was a bit premature.
Briefly, let's address the name. We live in the times when we NEED heroes. So the name was a bit of a turn off. Moving on.
The brew is billed as an "English IPA" collab of a Vermont brewery with a London brewery. That sounded very attractive.
I give it 5 for the look, the smell and the body. The taste, sadly, is a far cry from a REAL English IPA.
The brew tastes mild, sweet, and not at all hopped. Even though this beer boasts 5 types of hops! Let's remind ourselves the simple fact that the entire IPA idea was created because of the whole extra hopping method of preserving brews for the duration of the trip from England to India.
So anyway, the taste is a fail. I had to fix it by adding a nice bitter American pale ale to the glass.
This beer has a great potential if/when done right.
