This was on nitro at the brewery.
Dark chestnut body, but lacking the depth I expected from the nitro. I guess I"m just used to nitro stouts. Not gonna hold that against the base though. Ruddy at the edges, and the head does present that velvety foam I anticipated a bit.
The hazelnut really comes through on the nose. Specifically hazelnut shells. There's a delicate roastiness underneath, but the hazelnut and nutella sweetness starts to peek out.
Hazelnut again is the first thing that I notice, though the lactose comes in with its chest puffed out as well. The cacao nibs are definitely a supporting character here, but it works really well. I really like hazelnuts, and, like most human beings (and many dogs and smarter horses) enjoy nutella, so...
Point is it all integrates really well.
Smoothe and nutty overall, if a little thin. Finish stays smoothe, but brings in the... tart isn't the right word, but neither is bitter. Anyway, that side of lactose comes through at the end where it turns somewhat let's say bitter. Kind of straddles the line between a porter and a big brown. Or maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about and it's just the nuts that are driving me...
I liked it. I didn't really have any expectations as this was my first time at the brewery, but I was pleasantly surprised.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
