Poured from a mini growler into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a thin khaki head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt with light char, drip coffee and bakers chocolate. Flavor is dark toasted malt with moderate char, drip coffee, bakers chocolate and walnut husks; charry, roasty finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A good, quite toasted porter with both malt char and roast coffee notes. Somewhat dry, which seems fitting for the profile. This is a great follow up to the overly sweet pastry stout I had yesterday. Not overly complex, but I definitely like this smokey, coffee dense character better for an evening of sipping. Somewhat thin in body for an oatmeal porter, but the flavor makes up for it and the malt is more than sturdy enough to support the coffee. Nice dark malt coffee beer here. This is funky brewery in a converted small Seattle bungalow on the main drag in Fremont, but they seem to be making some nice brews.
