Reposado Tequila is known for its oak aged, smooth complexity. This is our interpretation of the fine Mexican spirit. Reposado Negro is A Black Wheat Wine aged in Tequila Barrels. A marriage of sweet alcohol warmth, smooth bready texture, and roasted malt “charred” flavors, this jet black brew will have you swearing you are sipping a top shelf tequila.

On-tap 12/23/2016 at Pizza J’s in Providence, RI, served in a flute glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a short brown head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains wheat, roasted malts, some chocolate, coffee and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of wheat and a hearty roasted malt character. Then some mildly sweet flavors of chocolate and coffee come in along with some tequila barrel-aging essence. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, slightly filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re looking for something a bit different.

Had at the brewery last night into a snifter glass, pours very dark brown with a head that basically doesn't exist after a minute or two. Smell is big and bold, tons of barrel and tequila, hints of booze. Taste starts with some dark malts, slight cocoa sweetness, it's pushed out by a big wave of tequila soaked barrel. Big dusty wood note with the obvious tequila overtones, slight smoke, a hint of alcohol. Big body to this one, lots of flavor, but maybe too much.

Overall I'm really perplexed when it comes to rating this beer. Wheatwine? No not at all. This is basically a strong ale aged in barrels, the tequila flavor may be too strong though, there's no underlying beer qualities to examine. The tequila/barrel overpowers the beer and there is no subtlety here. Tastes good though, if you like the booze!
