Collaborating with our good friends at Ripe Craft Bar Juice in nearby New Haven, we created the RIPE & Cranky Series, a series of draft IPAs that are variants of our flagship Cranky IPA blended with fresh pressed juice and exciting new hop varieties. For this round we created a Pineapple RIPE & Cranky that has a smooth and clean malt base that sets the stage for an explosion of fresh juice flavor and hop aroma.
The pineapple juice we are using in the RIPE & Cranky is fresh, Costa Rican pineapple juice. The Hop Profile includes Idaho 7, Citra, Jarrylo, Zythos and Azzaca hops.

No lie about the pineapple. Sweet smell, but a little more bitter than I expected.

Tried this as part of a flight at the brewery, which had it listed on the blackboard as of January 20. Very little head, light amber in color. Had a hard time smelling or tasting any pineapple flavor. There are other better choices to be had at the taproom.

On-tap 6/21/2016 at Flynn’s in Mansfield, MA, served in a tulip glass.
A: The beer is a very light gold color, with a short off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains citrus, light caramelized malts and some hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with strong flavors of pineapple and citrus. Then a mild hops bitterness for the style comes in. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Smooth and very crisp, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.
O: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a decent IPA to drink for a while.

Had last night at the brewery, into a shaped pint glass. The pineapple version comes out a bright gold color, quite hazy, with a small one finger white head that fades quickly.
Smell is pretty sweet overall, juicy, maybe a touch of some citrus hops in the back. Taste starts pretty chewy and sweet, middle is a sharp burst of fruit juice with a lemon-like twang, followed by a decent amount of bitterness and some hop notes.
Overall I prefer the blood orange version more, the fruit was more intense and it was a bit more of a balanced beer. This one you can tell has juice added to it, but the pineapple isn't in your face.
