Crankenstein is an unorthodox brewing experiment resulting in a seamlessly stitched together evolution of the style. The heart of this creature is pure west coast, described as clean, dry and bright, with a balancing bitterness. Crankenstein's soul, however, is thoroughly New England with an exceptional mouthfeel and lush hop aromas.

The series will launch with Hatchling 001, a 7.2% ABV IPA brewed with Simpsons Golden Promise Malt for an incredible mouthfeel, Pilsner malt for a crisp and clean finish and copious amounts of Simcoe and Citra hops for huge notes of passionfruit, and tropical citrus. Every two months a new Hatchling will emerge with a different combination of exciting hops.

From a 16oz can with no freshness date but there is a rather adorable Frankenhatchling squawking from his eggshell.

Pours into my tulip a murky straw color with creamy bubbly off white head. Drops quickly but leaves plenty of fluffy lace.

Scent is lemon, lime, orange, clementines, vanilla, grapefruit and tropical fruits. Orange rind and a hint of peppery spice.

Taste is lemon and lime at first. Orange peel, grapefruit. Good bracing bitterness in the West Coast style. Green resiny hops. Peppery spice. A hint of oniony dankness as the beer warms. Very light crisp malt bill leaves the hops fully on display. The finish is unusually clean and crisp for a big IPA.

Mouth is unfortunately a bit thin and the carbonation a bit prickly. Would prefer a bit fuller softer and more creamy.

A good IPA with an unusual hop profile and a great nose but the mouth feel falls a little short for me.

Pint can. Pours hazy gold with little head but big bubbles. Smells a little bit pineapple and pine. Taste is a little pineapple and mango with bitter pineyness. Feel is juicy and moderate carbonation bite. Overall, this does seem to be exploring a different hops profile - the can says "an unorthodox brewing experiment selecting the best elements of West Coast and New England IPAs". Doesn't really hit my taste preferences but you might want to try it.

Part of an experimental series of IPAs, I had this at the brewery as part of a flight. Good looking head and amber coloring upon arrival. The aroma is promising and the taste delivers: the right blend of hops for a fruity flavor, a decent alcohol buzz at 7.2% abv, with a clean finish. Nicely done, put this monster in the regular rotation!

A good IPA, but nothing exceptional, flavor was good, but nothing to set it apart from other IPA’s
