Collaboration with NOLA Brewing

Derek and Dylan Lintern grew up in Branford and are now at the helm of NOLA Brewing of New Orleans, LA so it seemed only natural to collaborate on a beer together, and perhaps do something good in the process. We decided to create a kettle soured interpretation of the iconic New Orleans Hurricane Cocktail. We started with a foundation of Pilsner malt, wheat, oats and aromatic malt for a very clean and smooth malt foundation. To this we added Amber Belgian Candi Syrup to mimic a hint of Rum sweetness. In the whirlpool, we steeped hibiscus flowers to create the iconic drink’s pink color. During fermentation we mixed in the following fresh juices; Passionfruit juice, Blood Orange Juice and Lime juice. The result is super tart and clean, slightly sweet beer, with an explosion of fresh hurricane juice flavor. Community support is a huge part of both breweries foundation. To this end, Stony Creek and NOLA Brewing will both donate one dollar per case of beer to the American Red Cross Hurricane Florence Relief Fund.

A: crystal clear; blood orange in color; 1 finger ivory head that receded quickly with no cap or collar; no lacing;

S: passion fruit and lime are dominant; hibiscus is in the background; not sure I picked up the blood orange;

T: tart, but with no funk; follows the nose at the outset; by the middle, blood orange comes in and is dominant by the finish; no bitterness;

M: medium bodied; moderate to high carbonation; dry finish;

O: really nice complexity; very crushable;
