This beer pours a cloudy amber-brown color. The head is small, and recedes quickly into sparse lacing. The aroma big, and malty. Toffee, caramel, nougat all in large quantities. There is no hop presence which is what I want in an Old Ale. The taste continues with the bold, complex maltiness. It tastes like a good Ritter Sport candy bar, but without the chocolate. The mouthfeel is full bodied with a silky texture, and appropriately low carbonation. Overall, this beer aged really well over the past two years. There is no sign of oxidation, and whatever hop character it may have had when it was young has completely vanished. I sincerely hope Northgate brews this again.

Pours a rich copper/burnt-sienna colour. Smells fruity, yeasty, quite alcoholic, oak and bourbon, heavy and sweet. Tastes heavy, little to no carbonation, dark-charred barrels, a bit sweet, and bourbon barrels.

This is aged in borubon barrels and you can tell it on the nose with rich malt, bourbon and vanilla notes. It pours brilliant chestnut with a slight ruby tint under a thick film of a head that produces rich lace. It has a rich malty toffee palate with sherry and small pitted fruit notes in the middle finishing with big alcohol from both the bourbon barrel and the beer. The alcohol nicely balances the malt but a dash more hop bitterness would be welcomed. It has a creamy medium full body and medium low carbonation. A clean, well composed old ale that can probably withstand some age. A nice after work beer.
