Copenhagen 16/8 2023. 33 cl bottle from Edeka Center Bremen Hastedt, Pfalzburger Strasse, Bremen. Drawing of a yelling pilot on the label.

Pours clear amber with a mid-sized white head. Stable. Settles as thin almost transparent layer of foam stretching to cover the surface of the beer. Crawling up the sides of the glass. No lacing to speak of

Aroma is medium intense with a sweet fruity odor mingling with more subtle citrus and a whiff of butter. Mango, sweet caramel and toffee. Honey. Light whiff of citrus.

Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture.

Flavor is medium intense with a rather strong sweetness followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is rather sweet with a rough bitter undertone. Finish is semi-dry.

Quite malty and a little rough around the edges.

Not another disappoint with the Kalea Advent calendar?! Unfortunately, yes. Next year, I’m just sticking with my favorites than play Russian roulette with these German brewers.

Looks pretty good orange golden, decent head, great lacing.
Smell a bit faint, but pleasant. Citrus, lemon peel. a hint of pine and pepper. Taste is quite mildly bitter. Lemon and soft malt, almost bready sweet.
Aftertaste is turning the malt sweet back into bitterness.
Overall this is an ok IPA. Very carefull on the bitterness.

Slightly misty orange pour, small white head quick to a smaller frothy lace.
Smell of overripe (somewhat stale) orange and tangerine, some stone fruit, faint tropical note, biscuit, caramel, faint white grape. A bit of alcohol warmth too.
Citrusy hop up front, with orange, big grapefruit, lime, a hint of pineapple, some sweet peach and cherry plum sweetened with caramel. Nice floral notes hinting at honey too. Dry biscuit, leafy bitter hops.
Aftertaste has grapefruit peel, bitter grass, some lingering malt sweetness. Medium, actually kinda light bodied, medium carbonation.
Not as strong as they probably intended (neither in the hop department, nor in the abv one), but a nice citrusy IPA nevertheless.

Picked this up at a great beer shop in Darmstadt, Germany, Maruhn Welt der Getränke. Crystal clear yellow-orange pour with a quickly fading one finger white head with minimal lacing. The nose is almost non-existent with some subtle tangerine notes along with a bit of grass and not much else. The taste is a bit more bold with a solid caramel malt base along with hints of orange zest, lemon, grass, and subtle pine. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a bit oily with medium carbonation and a nice tangy, bittersweet finish. Overall, this is far from a Double IPA by anyone's standards. It's barely an IPA at that. It's light and session-able but probably not worth re-visiting...

Bright bronze with speckledy snowy flim.
Mashy, slightly citrusy nose with some tin.
Soft buttermilk biscuit malts with lemon boiled sweets hops with bits of resin and nectar.
Lt-med, soft, creamy.

Not a DIPA by any stretch – too pale, thin, and weak. Technically sound, but no magic here. There is better German craft.

A: Clear amber, off-white head, decent head retention, very little lacing.

S: Intense hops, floral and a little piny. Sweet and syrupy. Little fruit

T: Strong bitterness upfront, little but present hop flavours, similar to the smell. Not much sweetness, finishes with a strong hop bitterness, slightly resinous. Quite unbalanced in my opinion, not much of a malt backbone to hold up to the intense bitterness.

M: Average

O: Good looking DIPA, interesting hop aroma, a little bit out of balance in my opinion.

Oct review, exp Jan 2013

A: basically no rising carbonation, but a decent, 1.5 finger head. Transparent amber.
S: A cross between an IPA and a syrupy Belgian ale. Flower nectar. A bit sweet but also of a leather shoe
T: Half DIPA, half Belgian pale ale. There’s a funny sappy sweetness which I don’t love. Woody, feety. Okay.
M: a slight sting and a bit drying
O: Decent, but not my dream ipa
