Strong aroma is surprisingly sweet and syrupy, having strong tones of honey and caramel. It pours a fairly typical clear yellow with not a lot of head. Flavor has a malty core and a strong overtone of honey. Is this mead? It has some subtle fruitiness, but not much in the way of hops to balance the sweetness. Smooth texture seems a bit on the thin side and has minimal fizz. Well, give the Portuguese a chance - with a little practice (and maybe some training from Belgian monks or U.S. craft brewers) they’ll produce something top-notch.

Appearance: Pours a lightly hazed, dark golden body with a brief, white head.
Smell: Sweetish cereal notes, a hint of lackluster grains, a spritz of chemicals, and an unclean, soiled scent of expired apple juice.
Taste: Lightly sweet, tangy maltiness with a bit of barley husks. It has that icky chemically accent you get in malt liquors. A half-eaten apple dug out of a nearby trashcan. Low, low hint of herbal hops with a very low amount of bitterness. Drying, flat finish with a little bit of lingering unhappiness.
Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Lightly carbonated.
Overall: Not recommended, friends. Grody in taste and lifeless and essentially flat on the tongue is not at all what I (or anyone in their right mind) wants from a pale lager. Even if you're going for 'cheap' there are slightly better offerings available, in that they're not quite as unpleasant tasting and are sufficiently carbonated.

Nothing too exciting about this beer. The flavor of this beer is on the sweeter side with a lot of malts. The appearance isn't much of anything other than a yellow with white head. The head is a little weak it doesn't still around very long. The aroma is malty and has a slight funk that some lagers give off. It's ok but really not worth having again.

Pours a clear, pale golden color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Slight retention and poor lacing. Smells of yeast, pale malt, slight grain, and slight metallic. Fits the style of an Euro Pale Lager. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp with a high carbonation level. Tastes of yeast, pale malt, slight hop, and slight metallic. Overall, a rather average euro pale lager.

Okay this one was alright, pretty much a safe beer to get. Not very strong but not very memorable. I could see myself drinking this again, but not as a go to beer, this is just an average beer, the appearance was probably the most memorable thing about the beer.

Slightly darker amber than straw yellow, with highlights that are lemon juice pale. Although smallish, the cotton white cap looks decent. The upper surface develops a little craggy character as it descends, paving the way for some acceptable looking lace.
In spite of the brown glass bottle, the aroma is a fraction skunky. Like usual, though, it fades after a time, revealing a lackluster combination of pale grain and noble hops. Damn good thing that Heineken (who owns this brewery) didn't decide to put this stuff in green glass.
Mikate doesn't have much flavor, so it can't get into too much trouble. It also helps that it tastes like I have a pretty fresh bottle. Still, if you'd tasted one Euro pale lager, you've pretty much tasted them all. You know the drill by now, but let's run through it anyway.
Untoasted grain holds down the bottom end, with maybe a trifle more sweetness than one usually experiences in an EPL. The grassy-spicy noble hops provide just enough flavor and bitterness for balance's sake. Boring, but not unpleasant. Do yourself a favor and drink it cold.
The mouthfeel score is kept from falling lower because the beer is nicely bubbled; not too many and not too few. That tends to draw one's attention from the fact that the finish is borderline watery. On second thought, forget borderline.
Mikate Holland Type Lager Beer is so named (I'm guessing) because it's supposed to be a cheaper version of Heineken Lager. It's been a while since I've had the more famous beer, but this little lager holds its own against that relatively low standard.
