This beer's second review, 5+ years after being added! Tasted blind, I haven't yet read neither the lable, other review ofrheaders here.
L- Black, though with a halogen torch held behind the waist of a chalice glass I get a dim hazey glint of deep ruby-red. Poured with a 3mm mid-tan head that has swiftly evolved into a 1mm partial cap.
S- Deeply roasty-toasty with hints of smoke.
T- Surprisingly 'bright' tasting on the front. It has hints of almost a tart (acidic) note, deep roasting, charring plus smoke notes.
F- Bright in a hoppy/dry sense, zero risk of rich never mind sweet here. I get zero indication of the 5.8% here, or any ABV% here actually.
O- It has a vibrant and very pungent taste and yet an over-light feel for it's 5.8%. I get no real sense of it's ABV% - I do get a mild zing on my palate but it seems more likely to be from the quite prominent hopping.
It's different, likely a contemporary sub-style IDK, it's certainly drinkable but I wouldn't buy it again.
440ml can BB: 11/11/21 - £4 from TremblingMadness/York.
Late Ps having now read JazzyJeff's review below: Well I never. He had an expired bottle, yet I'd a fresh can and the x-over in our findings was very striking to me. He was better able to ID precise nuances but our direction seems well aligned.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of April 2014, so it's a bit out of date. Lost in a cupboard somewhere - hope it's all right. Acquired a while back from Trembling Madness in York. The label describes it as a peat-smoked porter brewed in collaboration with the York Uni Real Ale Soc.
Poured into a dimpled pint mug. Bottle conditioned. A dark reddish-brown hue that appears virtually black in the glass. Yields a decent head of frothy light-brown foam that hangs around for a minute or so before disappearing. Aroma of roasted malt and smoke, with hints of burnt grain, woodsmoke, subtle peat, mild coffee, faint molasses, a vague fruitiness and a slight vinous quality. Perhaps a twinge of vanilla. Complex.
Tastes of smoky roasted malt with an acidic character and a bitter finish. Notes of roasted grain, woodsmoke, peat, subtle coffee, mild molasses, stewed leaves, fruitiness, faint earthy yeast and a delicate wine-like quality in the background. Well-attenuated, followed by a malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with acceptable carbonation and a thin, insubstantial body for the style. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of smoky roasted malt, stewed leaves, dry yeast and a mild vinous character.
OK though not amazing. Looks alright, while the aroma is pretty impressive and nicely rounded. Plenty of roasted malt and smoky notes in evidence. The flavour is similar but a tad less balanced and quite acidic. Weak body. A decent but flawed effort; the age of the bottle probably doesn't help. Worth a punt but no need to hunt it down.
