A 500ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2015, so it's a little out of date. Picked up a while back from Trembling Madness in York. The label gives little away, but their website states that this is a Vienna lager.
A: Poured into a straight pint glass. A clear orange-amber hue with medium carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a minute or two before reducing to a patchy surface layer.
S: Aroma of light grainy malt with hints of barley sugar, subtle caramel, earthy yeast, stewed leaves and faints husks. Quite dry but maltier than a typical macro lager. Subdued in character but not too bad.
T: Tastes of light malt with a subtle yeasty character and a dry finish. Notes of mild grain, a hint of barley sugar, subtle caramel, earthy yeast, stewed leaves, husks and a touch of cardboard. Highly attenuated, followed by a delicate leafy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with pleasant carbonation and decent body. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of light, grainy malt, earthy yeast, mild stewed leaves and wet cardboard.
O: A decent stab at the style - can't help thinking that this ought to be slightly maltier for a Vienna lager. Looks OK, while the aroma and flavour are pretty clean but a tad bland. The yeast notes provide extra depth. Body is alright. Faint off-notes; possibly due to age. Might benefit from some extra caramel malt, but otherwise not too bad. Worth trying if you come across it.
