Copenhagen 3/5 2025. 44 cl can from Meny, Vermlandsgde, Kbh. S. Can in Brass Castle's usual design in a black and pink version,
Pours opaque dark brown with a small off-white head. Stable. Settles as a thin patch of foam floating in the middle off the glass. No lacing
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet, roasted and malty odor mingling with sweet spice and a hint of cherries. Dark roasted malts, vanilla and lactose. Brown sugar. Ripe sugary cherry.
Light carbonation. Medium thick, oily, soft, slightly viscous, almost flat texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a strong sweetness followed by a medium strong sourish bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet. Lingers for a while. Finish is semi-dry.
Pleasant and pretty light.

Half pour (Cask) at the Last Drop. Dark brown with small head which dissipates quickly. Some sweet vanilla notes in the aroma and taste. Nice roasty porter base, cask offers some nice body to this, silky smooth.

On cask at Glasgow Real Ale Festival. Very dark colour with a cooking chocolate nose. This is slightly spicy with dark chocolate and vanilla flavours and a surprisingly mealy feel.

A 500ml boclttle (batch 2962) with a BB of Aug 2013, so it's literally just out of date. Hopefully it's still OK. Acquired some time back from Trembling Madness in York. Described on the label as a vanilla porter; the ingredients include Madagascan vanilla.
Poured into a tulip pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A dark brown hue that appears black in the glass. Yields a decent head of light-brown foam that lasts for a few minutes before dissipating. Aroma of roasted malt with hints of grain, dried fruit, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar and faint stewed leaves. Mildly sweet, but lacking in depth and intensity.
Tastes of dark malt with a mild, dry finish. Notes of roasted grain, dried fruit, caramel, vanilla, mild chocolate, brown sugar, stewed leaves and earthy yeast. Slightly sweet, with a subtle bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and lightly tingly, accompanied by decent carbonation and an insubstantial body. Mildly astringent, followed by an aftertaste of dark malt, caramel, mild vanilla and stewed leaves/herbs.
Not bad; a decent stab at a vanilla porter. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are pleasant enough - mild roasted malt, caramel and vanilla. Body is OK but a tad thin for the style. It's a bit understated - the roasted malt character could be more forthright, though the sweetness and vanilla seem well-judged. The body could also be thicker/creamier. A pleasant brew but won't blow your socks off. Worth sampling if you chance across it.
