Draft pour into a plastic cup during their anniversary party June 13, 2015. This was the first beer I tried on the day.
This beer, a wild ale brewed with cherries, has yet to be named, and they were running a competition to submit potential names for the brew. Upon tasting it I'm not sure it's worthy of a name.
Look and smell were typical of an amber wild ale.
Taste was slightly sour and tart, but any enjoyment from the tartness was immediately removed by the overwhelmingly bitter aftertaste. Having only had one glass, I can't speak to the quality of this brew over separate batches, but it honestly tasted like something was wrong here. No cherry flavor was present at all, except for the added tartness quality to the brew.
This was my first unpleasant experience with a beer at Pike 51. They're a relatively young brewery, but have experience producing quality sours (I've enjoyed Funk Buddies and Jolly Stave quite a bit). This 7.5% wild ale with cherries - whatever it ends up being named - is worth passing over.
