Poured rather clear for a wit and with a nonexistent head. The aroma is wood oak, butter and a flutter of citrus. The taste follows the aroma, but flattens out and finishes kind of dead, with none of the citrus aspects. The butter flavors make this too overpowering. I was hoping it would be good friendly but it really wasn't. I'm not screaming "infection!" but the butter flavors are clearly from the Chardonnay barrels.
They could do one or two things to improve this beer, or both maybe. 1) Use the same barrels but don't let it spend so much time in them, or just blend with fresh beer after. 2) Use a neutral Chardonnay barrel that is mostly American oak.
