473 ml tallboy can from the LCBO for about $3.75 CDN. Served cold into a tulip. Canning date of February 21, 2021.
Appearance - An aggressive pour yields a dark copper colored beer with good clarity and plenty of effervescence and topped with two plus fingers of dense chunky off-white head. Excellent staying power and some sparse spotty lacing/
Smell - Light floral notes, hints of pineapple and mango with an undercurrent of pine. Leaning towards overly sweet on the nose initially.
Taste - Initially sweeter with the mango and pineapple shining through then turns leafy and bitter with all the hops and hop oils used. There's a very bready note mid-sip that is interesting. Finishes pretty bitter.
Mouthfeel - Medium-full bodied, leaning towards the full, carbonation is modest. More of a sipper than other IPA's. Astringent bitter oils remain on the tp of the tongue for a while.
Overall - A well crafted, bigger IPA in terms of body and flavor makes it more of a one-off sipper than an IPA you can keep drinking and drinking, but nonetheless well crafted and worth a try. I'd be interested in trying a fresher sample just to compare and see if there are any major differences.
