Very good red ale, one of best I've drank. Nice malt flavor with a little sweetness, not overly hoppy. So many "REDS" are NW, which are hoppy, which isn't bad just different. Good true reds are hard to find, and this is one of them. Rated 7-14-2018

simple, but very good beer, in the irish red style, brick red and nice and malty, but also on the dry side for the style, and although there is less from the yeast here than i like in the best examples of the style, its objectively good and its not totally absent, a definite pint beer and nice for the fall time even though everyone associates this style with spring. it doesnt hold much head from the tap but i like the color. aroma here is lightly meaty to me, fruit leather, raisin, kilned malt, a little baked bread, hearty, maybe chestnut, very full without being too sweet. the flavor is similar, a bit of caramelized or brown sugar, but thats it, an almost english character to the yeast and a drier finish. very little from the hops, but its right for the style. some nice malt layers to this, perhaps a little more dynamic than many, but still a pounder this time of year. can handle salty and spicy food just fine, which lends to its session vibe, and the low alcohol with all this flavor is great. have not had much from these guys so far, they are new to the boise are from what i gather, but looking forward to more after this one! definitely underrated here...

On tap at the Crosscut Taproom in Castle Rock, WA. The beer is ok, but is pretty one-dimensional: malt-forward ( nothing wrong with that) but it needs some hop punch and less sweetness.

Served On-Tap

A — Pours a medium amber hue into the glass, there is a tinge of red to it, but this really looks more like an amber than it does look like a red. Creamy tan colored head forms and leaves some lacing behind it with each sip.

S — Smells of sweet malts and grains, little bit of a hop presence, but mostly malt forward.

T — Tastes like the nose, though the hops fade entirely, just a lot of malt here, this is an OK amber, but it misses the mark a bit with its apparent lack of hops.

M — Medium bodied, light carbonation, easy drinking and one dimensional.

O — OK overall, just a bit underwhelming, could use some different malts and hops for more balance.
