Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark reddish brown with a thin khaki head that dissipates to patches and light lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, fresh and dried plums, raisins and dates, woody whiskey; a bit boozy and with a little oxidation. The profile is a lot like an American barleywine. Flavor is dry caramel malt, figs, dates, raisins, old wood, Port and suggestions of whiskey. A bit of alcohol burn in the finish with a woody, musty aged port finish with the same light cardboardy oxidation ntoes as the aroma. Medium bodied with light creaminess and sharp carbonation. Both the flavor and aroma are very reminiscent of a barleywine, mostly English, but with some aged hop and woodiness more like an American one. Lots of good dried fruit. The bottle recommend a year of aging, this bottle got close to two years and has held up well. The dark fruit flavors have taken on a strong fortified wine profile, but with more exotic dried fruit like dates and figs. I was only able to get one bottle, so do not know what this was like fresh, but it has aged like a good quality barleywine with just a little less malt character. Nice and warming with a good burn in the finish just like the experience of it's namesake. Loowit doesn't get high amounts of attention in my area, but I've found them to be quite solid. They produced and good, big barleywine/strong ale here. Kudos. If this wasn't a one-off, I'd get it again for sure.

Dark coppery brown with a modest cap of foam in the Stella goblet. Spritzy and massively malty with a sharp claw of boozy heat and a bitter bite.
Flavor is beyond robust. Sweet and woody, like a combination of a Wee Heavy Scotch ale and a Barley Wine. A big malty beast with a dose of hops that grows to a moderately bitter burn. Alcohol slowly ignites in the brain. This is actually a pretty sippable powerhouse.
"Brewed to commemorate the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens." Seems like an appropriate brew for the occasion.
