Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a two finger white head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of pale malt with a touch of caramel, citrus hops, orange, grapefruit and mild mixed tropical fruit. Flavor is pale malt, citrus and mildly dank hops, lemon, grapefruit, pineapple and hints of light stone fruit. Nice assertive alpha oil bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Picked this up for the worthy cause and because Loowit often surprises with unexpectedly good brews, which is the case here. Didn't know whether I was going to get a hazy or traditional IPA, and was pleased to find a solid, non-hazy classic citrus forward IPA with fine bitterness. The flavor is not that complex at first, but some nice citrus and fruit flavors develop through the taste and the base malt is excellent. Many traditional IPAs are getting somewhat higher scores from me than in the past because I'm so grateful to find a good one among the flood of old fruit juice IPAs. I'm very happy with this one and appreciate Loowit doing this benefit. The cheery label still made me sad to think about it.
