Poured from the 16 oz. can into a Samuel Smith English tulip.
a; Opaque black with an inch and a half thick tan head which receded quickly to just a thin ring of foam and no lacing.
s: Initially a little coconut tinge, then ashes
t; Sharp overroasted malt with charred notes on the bittersweet finish. Smooths out later, but remains thin, and tastebuds hunt in vain for either coconut or bourbon barrel aged flavor.
m: Lighter side of medium with some carbonation tingle.
o: One of the less enjoyable porters I have had, with little if any hint of either coconut or bourbon barrel aging. The malt seems so charred-smoky that it overrides virtually all else. Perhaps the best that can be said is it covers its unusually high (for a porter) 8% ABV quite well.
