Drank on tap at Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fà, Rome, Italy
Served in a cervoise
Gorgeous appearance. The hazy, deep garnet colored body was topped by a near four-finger tall plume of light pink froth. The crown receded surprisingly quickly. Thin steaks of lacing clung to the glass.
The nose was crisp and bright and contained a moderate amount of fresh raspberries. Slightly jammy and sweet. The sweetness was countered by a dry, powdery yeastiness. A touch of oaky mustiness was noticeable as well.
Raspberries definitely came through stronger in the flavor profile. Again, the raspberry notes were very fresh and authentic. Good amount of tart wheatiness in the center. Some lemon as well. The beer finished super crisp and dry with notes of oaky tannins and lemon rind.
The mouthfeel seemed a bit under carbonated, especially for the style. The liquid was medium bodied with a very subtle effervescence. Almost a touch watery.
After walking miles around Rome in 90 degree heat, this beer really hit the spot. The bartender a Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fà compared Framboisette to Cantillon's Rose de Gambrinus, and this comparison was spot-on. Nice to see a newer Italian craft brewery doing an excellent take on a classic Belgian beer style.
