On tap at the Genesee Brew House in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a light reddish-brown, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like heavy duty caramel malt and toffee, with just a slight bit of piney and grapefruit on top. It smells like a malt bomb, which saddens me.
The taste confirms my fears. This is an old-fashioned malt bomb of an IPA. There's barely any hop presence, just a sweet, grainy and toffee-like malt backbone, super caramelly and disappointing. There's no brightness to the hops, just a bitterness that clashes with the intense malt sweetness. This is pretty disappointing, as Genesee can make some great beers through the Brew House system.
This is medium bodied, thicker than I'd like, with a somewhat syrupy feel to it.
A major disappointment here- not really good at all.
