Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Clear dark mahogany brown pour.. nearly black with 1.5 fingers of foamy white lacing. Decent lacing.

S: Dark fruits and darker sugars. Sweet and earthy.... cooking cherries.

T/F: Strong caramel and malt character. Brown sugar and toffee mingled with burnt raisin, vanilla, and plum. Some mild hopping balances it out near the finish. Sticky on the tongue and medium to thick in body. Finish is dark sugars and cherry.

O: A solid Warmer, and much better than I was expecting from Genesee. Complex flavor and well worth the tasting.

Poured into a pint glass.

Look: Color is brown with a light whitish head that doesn't last long.
Smell: Raisins, toffee and chocolate
Taste: Sweet with some cherry hints and lots of malt. Not much hop bite but that's expected in the style. Gets sweeter as it warms up.
Feel: Light carbonation and feels light for a 9% beer
Overall: Easy to drink 9% that gets better as it warms to room temperature.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a super deep copper-brown color with a small fizzy off white head. The head fades very fast leaving just a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of big dark fruit aromas of raisin and plum. These aromas are mixed with other sweet smells of caramel and molasses as well as a good showing of chocolate. A little bit of roast and bread rounds it out producing a very rich smell overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a very sweet taste with a big dark fruit flavors of raisin and cherry mixed with a whole lot of caramel and molasses. Along with these tastes comes a strong bready taste and a bit of a chocolate flavor. The sweet caramel and chocolate get stronger as the taste moves forward all while the fruit fades a little bit. A hint of alcohol and a resurgence of the fruit comes to the tongue and ends up leaving one with a rather sweet and warming taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – For a 9% brew the feel is rather light with a carbonation level that is rather low. The low carbonation is rather nice and the thinner body does make it quite easy to drink, which I don’t know, at 9%, if it is a good or a bad thing.

Overall – A very sweet but rather surprisingly easy going winter warmer at 9%. I rather liked this one.
