On tap at The Genesee Brew House in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a very dark brown, almost stout-like, with a small filmy head, and lots of lacing.
This one smells surprisingly chocolatey for a dopplebock, with spicy rye-tinged cocoa powder, dark fruit, and rum soaked bread.
This is definitely off-the-mark when it comes to the traditional aspects you expect in a dopplebock- but that doesn't stop it from being very tasty. It's very chocolatey, with a light rye spiciness that I wish was a little more present. It's also unsurprisingly pretty bread, with a fruitiness that reminds me of port-soaked bread, or rum-soaked bread.
This is very creamy, with a good level of carbonation.
This is a very interesting, and hardly feels like a dopplebock. It's quite delicious, though- so I guess I can't really care.
