i rarely get moved by an amber ale, good ones all tend to taste pretty similar to me, and while this one is nice and flavorful and fresh and rather bold for genesee, at the end of the day its just another amber, far from the most exciting craft beer in the world, but i think its awesome that these guys are making things other than adjunct lagers and cream ales now. this is clear and rich looking copper in color with a nice lathery head and an aroma of toasted chestnut, toffee, and fresh baked bread, hearty and appealing, with some earthy minerals and a doughy element as well. the flavor is about the same, not overly sweet but also not really balanced out much by any appreciable hops in here. clean to drink, sessionable even though there is some body to it, and with a neat drying mineral complexion that i think gives it a little depth. faint apple and bread crust at the end, autumnal flavors, a good beer for football and chicken wings on a chilly grey rochester fall day. fresh and pretty solid on tap at the brew house.
