Been wanting to stop by here for awhile now. Jamestown just isn't one of those places I'm ever "near." Decided to make the trek out yesterday. A nice looking little shop in the "heart" of downtown J'town. Walking in the store looks like a wine shop, but the right side wall and area is all about the beer. The beer is organized well, though I saw plenty of out-of-date beer on the shelf. Many awesome brews that I haven't seen in W-S anywhere (including City Bev). The prices were definitely on the high side, especially for the singles. They had 2 sections dedicated for mixed sixers, one in the cooler and one large room temp shelf. They have a bar in the back section with about 5-6 taps. Some snacks available if you desire. My favorite part of the store though, is his glassware shelf up near the register. They have quite a selection of snifters and tulips from many breweries. I am a total sucker for glassware, so I grabbed some I'd been eyeing for awhile, and along with the Evil Twin releases I snagged, I was on my way. Good stop. I'll be back.

This review pertains only to an online glassware order, and not to the brick & mortar shop.

Potent Potables is a newer shop with a bar (cool concept) in the Triad area of Jamestown. A friend recently let me know they can do mail order, so I ordered some glassware from them. The transaction was quick and easy, and I was completely satisfied. They answered emails quickly, sent a Paypal invoice, and I got the glasses within a week. The glassware was of good quality and I had been looking for them for awhile.

Steve and Abby were very helpful, i'd recommend them for all your beer-related needs. Potent Potables sounds like a cool place (with a clever Jeopardy-inspired name), and i'll make a point to visit if passing through Jamestown, NC someday... judging from their store photos on twitter/facebook they stock a pretty impressive array of craft beers, and had Humulus Lager on tap recently (!) Nice. 8 taps and 400 beers in all, can't go wrong with that.

Stopped in here on my way home from Raleigh after the Raleigh Rare & Vintage Beer Tasting. This is a new-ish (3 months old) addition to the downtown area of Jamestown. It is very easy to spot on Main St. with a nice large sign right next to the road which was nice as I had never been to Jamestown before and was worried I might not be able to find it. Upon walking in I was immediately greeted by Steve and Abby. I have known both of them for quite some time so I'm sure that helped, but they also did this for every patron that entered as well. Everything in the store was very nicely layed out and organized. The beer was on the far wall from where you entered. Most of the beer was sitting on the shelves with some individuals sitting in a cooler. These could be purchased and consumed there on site if you chose to do so which was a really nice feature. There was plenty of dark stained hardwood and nice decor all around. There is also a bar area with plenty of seating in the opposite corner from the entrance. They had 6 brews there for very reasonable prices. They also sold pre-packaged bar snacks if you opted to snack on something while enjoying a beer or glass of wine. This place had a really comfortable feel to it and just felt inviting to any and all who would come in. If you feel like talking to a true beer geek, definitely get a conversation going with Steve. Really glad I took the ~5 minute detour off I85 to visit. Next time I am in the area I will be sure to do so again.
