Is a nut hatchet a hatchet for nuts? Maybe it’s an old Northcoast legend of some nut running around with a hatchet. Either way, this Nut Hatchet cuts in broad strokes with its hints of toffee and toasted nuts. You’ll notice the balance of sweet maltiness and soft fruit, but its gentle caramel notes will really stand out. You know what else really stands out? That Nut Hatch that we just saw sitting on a hatchet outside the window.

Canal Park Brewing Nut Hatchet Brown, 6.7% ABV. Pours reddish deep brown, with a one-finger white head. Nuts on the nose, sweet and malty, taste follows plus caramel, moderate sweetness, almost no bitterness. Excellent mouthfeel overall excellent to outstanding.

Nut Hatchet Brown pours a clean, translucent brown color, with a big, long-lasting head. The aroma is mild but sweet, with hints of honey. The flavor is sweet, with honey notes and a bright, sweet cereal note. Good feel.

750 ml crowler filled 6/10/24 into a nonic pint glass.
L: SRM 21 Pours iced tea burnished copper amber color with a thin off white head that quickly recedes to thin edge foam, light steady carbonation, no lacing.
S: Caramel malts, toasted cereal grains.
T: Sweet malts, a suggestion of black tea, lightly roasted cereal grains, a hint of brown bread, a touch of sea salt, a light touch of dates & raisins, dried dark fruits.
F: Lightly brisk, smooth, medium-light bodied feel with a medium length smooth lightly drying finish.
O: Think of malty & lightly sweet cold tea. Tastes great! It has a fairly mild taste overall with a smooth feel. It is very good in its style.

my first ever beer from these guys is a very basic but well made brown ale, layers of malt here rater than being one dimensional. i get a nice caramel, almost vienna malt base underneath the classic chocolate malt profile in both the nose and the flavor, and its smooth with a little sweetness running through it and giving it some body. its not as heavy as some, and has a good autumnal sort of earthiness about it. a more robustly flavored ale yeast strain would add even more complexity, but i like its simple and approachable nature. it has good chocolate notes throughout, light nuttiness, almost woody too in the middle with the sweeter cereals. good carbonation, mild finish, easy pint of beer overall. a good brown ale in the fall always seems more seasonally appropriate to me than a pumpkin beer or even the oktoberfest types, this is the kind of beer i like to make a day out of this time of year. a good first impression with this one from canal park. not going to change the world, but it works for me!
