From the can, it pours a hazy light yellow color with a robust white head that slowly reduces. In the nose, it is bready, with a touch of banana and clove. In the mouth, the same, bready with a touch of banana.

L) Pours a lovely amber with a white creamy head.
S) Has a very bready aroma, with slight notes of banana and clove.
T) Honestly, the taste is quite pleasant. Very grain forward with a pleasant floral nature. Heavy on the clove and quite evident banana.
F) Medium body, quite nice, decent carbonation.
O) Not a bad hefe. Not as cloudy as I would like, but still a pleasant wheat.

Smartmouth Brewing Co. "Sommer Fling"
12 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 03/21/17" and sampled on 06/27/17
$2.29 @ Total Wine & More, Virginia Beach, VA
Notes via stream of consciousness: Another beer from Norfolk that I just couldn't find any fresher in cans. I understand Total Wine & More having older stock, but everywhere I looked had the same date. Distribution problem? Lack of sales perhaps as the summer season has really just begun? On the other hand I don't recall seeing it on tap either, just the Alter Ego, but I digress. Typical appearance for a hefeweizen sans head as what was there dropped quickly ~ and this is definitely a "beer clean" glass as I've just used it and got a great head. Odd. I can see the effervescent carbonation... could there have been some oil on the lip of the can? Maybe. Anyway, the aroma is wheaty with a distinct plastic phenol, clove, some green banana, and the suggestion of some dull lemon. The flavor follows with less pronounced plastic and more banana, and just a hint of citrus and some grass. It's grainy and sweetish; and there's not as much carbonation there as I thought there was. Moderate, I'd call it, with a medium body. It's lightly bitter which leaves it sweetish, but there is a very light bit of spiciness from the yeast that helps just a touch. What I think would work better is more carbonation with some carbonic bite, but that's just my thought and that doesn't mean much. Overall it's a decent hefeweizen but nothing special.

From the bottom of the can: "CANNED ON 04/11/17"
Appearance: Not much of a head; it pops up momentarily and instantly goes away to a flat surface which is very uncharacteristic for a Hefeweizen. The body is hazy and medium gold colored.
Aroma: I get a very light and dull wheat aroma. There is a light bit of a wet cardboard smell, some light alcohol, and some clove.
Taste: Up front there is a light bit of wheat flavor with a very light touch of banana. In the middle there is a bit of herbal hop flavor.
Mouthfeel: It has a nice chewy mouthfeel. Decent carbonation.
Overall: This Hefeweizen leaves much to be desired. It isn't a beer that I would pick up again and it really isn't one that I would recommend. If you do try it I would recommend getting it straight from the brewery because it isn't very good in a can.

Draft at The Hilton in Norfolk, VA.
Hazy yellow body with an inch of white head. Aromas of raw, cracked grains. Mashed banana, clove. Grainy with mild sweetness. Just a bit off. Lacks the amazing drinkability I associate with a great hefeweizen.
