From the label on the can, just under the barcode: "CANNED ON 1/23"
Appearance: The beer pours mostly black but with an obviously visible brown hue. It has a medium-short fluffy head which is khaki and has some separation between bubbles. It doesn't have much head retention but it leaves a nice sheet of lacing with bubbles of various sizes.
Aroma: It smells like coffee with a bit of dark chocolate. It smells a bit like chocolate covered java beans. It smells nice.
Taste: Up front there is a light bit of cocoa with a hint of char which is very pleasant. Towards the middle it has a light bit of pine tar and burnt wood with a pleasantly sweet note of burnt caramel. There are hints of dark roasted coffee and bitter baker's chocolate. The beer finishes with a bit of coffee cherry flavor with light sparks of acrid burnt carbon. It is a very lively tasting beer with a lot of character.
Mouthfeel: The body feels medium-light but deep on the light-side. Carbonation feels good but at times it feels a bit much for the light weight of the beer. Bitterness is really good and it has a nice combination of burnt bitterness and hop bitterness.
Overall: As a whole the beer is nice. The body is a bit lacking and the carbonation feels high but otherwise the flavors and aromas are there. I would buy it again at a future date to see if the mouthfeel has improved, because it's worth the risk given the flavor. As a whole I would recommend it because the flavor is good.
