Look - Medium to dark orange color that is also cloudy. Poured into a German stein. Had a very thin foam head with no retention or lacing.
Aroma - Most of what is hitting my nose are yeast notes along with the sting of "booze" smell.
Taste - Basically the same as the aroma, I'm detecting quite a bit of yeast notes, not getting much if any of the "banana" notes typically found in biers of this style and very "boozy".
Mouthfeel - Medium heavy to heavy body that starts boozy but finishes fairly dry.
My thoughts overall - A unique Iowa twist on another classic German style that was decent enough for me to finish the entire bottle but falls short in overall depth when compared to the actual German styles. I feel this beer is having a sort of identity crisis as it seems to straddle the line between a standard "Dunkel" and a "Weizenbock". In closing, this isn't by any means a bad beer but I feel there are betters out there if you want to take a trip with these styles of bier.
