Everyone loves a good mashup, whether hip hop and electronica, cowboys and aliens, or in this case: a juicy New England-Style IPA and an Oak-Aged Wild Ale. We laid down our genre blend on a malt track similar to our Extinction Event series, and then layered on Galaxy and El Dorado hops for deep riffs of tropical fruit, cherries, and watermelon. Once the wort left the brewhouse, the record scratched and the real mashup was ready to begin. Fermented by a particularly fruity strain of Brettanomyces (funk, not sour) in our American Oak Foeder, this decidedly new-world IPA has diverged from its decidedly old-world techniques. The Brett adds a layer of funk so out-of-this-world that it perfectly complements the fruit-forward hops and has quickly become our new jam. Hop on your horse - or climb into your spaceship - and wrangle up this beer before it's gone!

Yikes! Bought a 4 pack of pints at the local HyVee because they promised me that everyone likes a good mashup. That's not exactly true. This is an absolute train wreck of flavor. I ended up pouring cans 2-4 on the strawberries in the garden. They're dying. As for me, I'm not sure I like beer any longer. It's gonna take a while to get past this.

What's not to like about a NEIPA brewed with brettanomyces? Fruity and funky, delicious and highly drinkable. Poured from a 16-ounce "pounder" into a Duvel tulip glass. The appearance leaves little to be desired: slightly hazy dark amber colored body, topped with a good three fingers of long-lasting fluffy white foam. Big aromas and flavors of mango, pineapple, and grapefruit up front, with underlying characteristics of wild-ale funkiness from its fermentation with brett in an oak foeder. Low bitterness, with a crisp and dry finish and lingering notes of bubblegum and umami. The elements complement each other very well in this "mashup," as the brewer calls it. Highly recommended, but you'd better grab it while you can!
